Mauritian Muslim Funeral Fund and Bereavement Society Limited is a member-owned co-operative society established to provide mutual assistance and financial support during bereavement. We bring members together so that small, affordable contributions can provide meaningful help when a family experiences a death.

Why the Society Was Established
A Cost Shared Is a Cost Carried
Bereavement brings emotional, practical and financial pressure at the worst possible time. Islamic burial is normally arranged quickly, often within a day or two, and the costs (the funeral director, ghusl and kafan, the burial plot, transport) can arrive as a sudden, significant expense that a single family may struggle to meet alone.
Mutual aid of this kind has a long history within Muslim communities: neighbours and relatives supporting a bereaved household as a shared duty, rather than leaving it to one family. The Society formalises that tradition. By asking every member for a modest £10, instead of relying on a small number of people for a large sum, the cost of a funeral is spread across the whole community. No single member is overburdened, and support can reach a family quickly, without them having to ask.
The £30 registration and administration fee and the £20 advance contribution paid on joining exist for the same reason. They let the Society respond immediately when a family needs help, while contributions from the wider membership are collected afterwards to replenish the fund.
When the Prophet (peace be upon him) settled in Madinah, he paired the Ansar, the city's Muslims, with the Muhajirun who had arrived with almost nothing, as brothers, formally bound to support one another. One Ansari, Sa'd bin ar-Rabi', offered to split his entire wealth with his new brother Abdur-Rahman bin Awf. Abdur-Rahman did not take the gift outright. He asked instead to be shown the market, so that he could build his own means.
They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given, but give them preference over themselves, even though they are in privation.

Our Society is built on that same instinct: a community that structures its care for one another, so that support reaches a family in need not by chance, but because everyone has already agreed to stand behind everyone else.

Who We Serve
Our Community
Membership serves Muslim adults aged 18 or over who are of Mauritian heritage or descent, or who are the spouse or civil partner of someone of Mauritian heritage or descent. Registered dependent children under 18 may receive funeral-assistance coverage through an active member.
