Funeral Assistance
Compassionate Support During Bereavement
The Society brings members together to provide mutual financial assistance when an eligible death occurs. Its purpose is to ease part of the financial pressure on the bereaved family and support a prompt, dignified funeral.
A Muslim owes another Muslim several rights, among them following the funeral procession.

Who Is Covered?
- An active registered member.
- A registered dependent child under 18 linked to an eligible active member.
- A child is covered as a registered dependant and does not become a member, shareholder or voter.
Eligibility Requirements
- The adult member must be active and fully registered.
- Required contributions must be up to date.
- A dependent child must have been registered before the death.
- The death and relationship must be satisfactorily verified.
- The application must comply with the registered rules and approved policies.
How Assistance Is Calculated
Maximum Assistance Pool = Active Members × £10
Following an eligible death, £10 is allocated from every active member's advance contribution balance. Because the total depends on how many active members there are at the time, the exact amount is not fixed.
The amount paid cannot exceed contributions properly allocated or collected, together with any additional sum lawfully approved from Society reserves.
Example figures. The Society is not yet enrolling members, so it has no membership total to publish. These numbers show how the arithmetic works, not what is in the fund.
What Assistance May Support
Eligible Funeral Expenses
- Funeral director charges.
- Ghusl and kafan arrangements.
- Janazah and burial administration.
- A burial plot or burial rights.
- Essential transport connected with the funeral.
- Other reasonable funeral or burial expenses approved by the Society.
Assistance depends upon eligibility, verification, available funds and the Society's policies. It does not automatically cover every funeral expense.
Who Receives the Payment?
- The registered Primary Next of Kin.
- The registered Secondary Next of Kin where appropriate.
- The lawful personal representative.
- An approved funeral director, cemetery or burial provider.
The Society may pay a provider directly where this protects the funds and assists the funeral arrangements.
What Documents May Be Required?
- Official confirmation or certificate of death.
- Proof of identity.
- Proof of relationship to the deceased.
- Confirmation that a child was registered as a dependant.
- Funeral or burial confirmation.
- Invoices, estimates or receipts.
- Any other reasonable evidence required to verify eligibility and prevent fraud.
How a Decision Is Reached
Careful, Prompt Verification
When a bereavement is reported, the Society follows a consistent process to reach a decision as quickly as it reasonably can:
- The notification is recorded and logged.
- Membership, contribution and dependant records are checked.
- The death and the relationship are verified against the documents provided.
- The Board or an authorised claims team confirms eligibility and the assistance amount, based on the number of active members and the funds available.
- The decision is communicated to the family and approved assistance is released, either to the next of kin or personal representative, or paid directly to an approved funeral provider.
The Society aims to reach a decision and provide approved assistance promptly once all satisfactory evidence has been received.
Multiple Eligible Deaths
Each death will be assessed independently. Where two or more eligible deaths occur close together, the Society may use the advance-contribution system and request additional replenishment so that each verified case can be addressed fairly.
