Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Clear answers about contributions, joining, coverage and reporting a bereavement. If your question is not answered here, please contact us.

How much do I contribute?
Just £10 following each eligible death. Individual contributions are brought together to provide meaningful assistance to a bereaved family.
Is there a monthly subscription?
No. Contributions are event-based, made when an eligible death occurs, rather than a fixed monthly payment.
What must I pay when joining?
A £50 initial payment: a £30 registration and administration fee, plus £20 held in advance as two £10 contributions.
What does the £30 fee cover?
The practical running of the Society: record-keeping, verification, governance and communication. It is kept separate from members' advance contributions and is never used to pay funeral assistance.
Who is covered?
Active members in good standing, and registered dependent children under 18 linked to an active member.
Is there a qualifying period before I am covered?
No. Your membership becomes active, and therefore covered, once the Board approves your application and your initial payment is received. There is no waiting period.
How do I report a death?
Use the Report a Bereavement form, or contact the support team by telephone, WhatsApp or email. We will explain the process and the documents required.
How is the assistance amount decided?
The maximum assistance pool is the number of active members multiplied by £10. The amount actually paid depends on contributions allocated or received, verification, available funds, and the Society's rules and policies.
Are my children covered?
Registered dependent children under 18 linked to an active parent or legal guardian may be covered. A child must be registered before an eligible death, and does not hold a share or voting rights. At 18, they must apply for individual membership to remain covered.
What happens if I miss a contribution?
A member who does not replenish a required £10 contribution may have their eligibility suspended. Failing to contribute following three successive eligible deaths leads to termination, after written notice and a chance to put it right. Members in genuine financial difficulty should contact the Society promptly.
Can I rejoin if my membership has been terminated?
Yes. You pay the initial joining fees again, the £30 registration and administration fee and the £20 advance contribution, together with the three missed £10 contributions that led to the termination.
Is this an insurance policy?
No. The Society provides mutual funeral assistance through member contributions. It is not an insurance policy, savings account, investment or guaranteed fixed benefit.
